Euro legends descend on Kiev

With the draw for next Summer's Championship due this evening. We take a look at some of the cup lifting legends (and Juan Capdevila) who will be in attendance...

Because we can't rely on technology alone to divide 28 teams into 4 random groups, at 7pm this evening we will be treated to UEFA's next velveteen ball-bag juggling spectacular. Tonight is the night that we find out whether or not w'll be enduring 12 hour soviet freight train rides across the Ukraine in order to watch our boys next June.

Alongside the usual posse of hacks and beurocrats, UEFA will be nodding toward their glorious past with an illustrious selection of old boys invited from each of the 13 previous European Championship winning teams. From Ponedelnik in '62 to Capdevila in '98. Illustrious indeed.

Craven Cottage Away Day

The most sophisticated approach to any ground in the country?

East Dulwich to Fulham on a Sunday wasn’t quite the short hop across town I’d anticipated. We decided to break up the 10 miles and 1 ½ hour bus journey with a bit off Sunday lunch in the Ship pub followed by a 40 minute walk to the ground.

Once fed and watered we hadn’t left a lot of time to walk the remaining leg, but made in time after a pretty fast passed walk along the Thames Path to the ground.

The final walk to Craven Cottage along the river through Autumnal tree lined avenues has got to be one the most sophisticated approaches to any ground in the country.

We took our place, in the front row of the Hammersmith End. Sitting in the front row you are actually below pitch level, your eyes being almost level with the pitch, offering a slightly bazar but great up close and personal experience of the game.

Fulham is the only club in the country with a Neutral zone, it’s past history of having no segregation in the Putney End and having very well-behaved fans meant the FA gave Fulham special dispensation to allow for this. Fulham is the only club currently in the UK to have such an area.

The 25,700 capacity means the atmosphere can pick up pretty well in places, but overall can be a little tepid over the course of 90 minutes. The age of the ground also means facilities aren’t exactly fantastic but adds to the character and charm, for example the corridor like toilets are a bit of a squeeze.

Craven Cottage is a fantastically Victorian ground, built in 1896 on the site of a 300 year old hunting lodge. Although the original cottage is no more one of the most charming features of the ground is the Pavillion Cottage which nestles neatly in the corner of the stadium. Dating back to 1905 the Cottage was built due to an oversight in the Stevenage Road Stand (as it was then); changing rooms had been left out of the final plans.

The Cottage was traditionally used by the players' families and friends who sit on the balcony to watch the game, but the club now sell those seats at a premium rate.

All in all Craven Cottage makes a top class away day.

England Euro 2012 Training Base Announced

The FA head to Krakow in June

Following the confirmation of the England Team's qualification for Euro 2012 last month, the FA confirmed this week that hotel and training facilities have been secured in the Polish city of Krakow.

The Three Lions will use the Hutnik Municipality Stadium, home of Hutynik Krakow and will stay 15 minutes away in the heart of the city at the Hotel Stary.

No stranger to onslaught from hordes of drunken Englishmen, the second largest city in Poland boasts plenty for fans, followers and press alike. History, culture and myriad cheap bars and restaurants make Krakow one of the most popular tourist destinations in Poland.

The Netherlands will also call Krakow their home in June 2012 and Italy look to follow suit.

Whilst it is not a host city for the Championships, Krakow is well situated for transport links to venues across Poland and Ukraine, 180 miles away from the Final venue in Warsaw. Find distances between Krakow and other venues using the footy finder.

Building the Gdansk PGE Arena in 60 secs

The PGE Arena Gdańsk, formerly the Baltic Arena has been specially built for Euro 2012

The new catchily titled 44,000 capacity home of Lechia Gdańsk was built for the 2012 European Championships and began construction in 2008. It will host Euro 2012 group games and one quarter final and was designed to resemble the Baltic Coast's native Amber which has been traded in the area for 2000 years.

Loftus Road Stadium Tour

We jumped on a tour around the home of the Premier League's newest big spenders!

Queens Park Rangers joined many other clubs by offering a stadium tour earlier this year, the tour costs £10 and lasts around 1 hour and is a great way to see behind the scenes at Loftus Road. As you'd expect with most stadium tours you see the dressing rooms, dugouts, executive boxes and press room.
